Working Group XVI:
Innovative Constructions and Projects
The passive house is widely regarded as the most preferred building
system for the future. So it is vital to develop more and more detailed
solutions for the preferences of different people in different regions.
It is high time for the passive house
to open also to the outside. Franz Freundorfer
will present "The passive house window that opens to the outside."
The perhaps most important basic concept requirement in a relatively
cold climate is envelope constructions with superior
thermal insulation without thermal bridges. Some
Danish producers of building components have during the last couple
of years developed new highly insulated envelope constructions.
In the presentation of Henrik Tommerup two of the most
interesting components are described: Aprefabricated light-weight
exterior wall element with a load-bearing plywood and steel frame
(see attached photos) and a foundation / slap on ground solution
based on EPS insulation materials.

Jan Tywoniak will inform about the design concept and
management of an ambitious housing project - a group
of 13 PH-family houses in the protected nature area
Ceský ráj in the Check Republik.
A study presented by Anneleen Lagae shows the main challenges
for building smaller passive houses
for low income groups in the Netherlands. As a final
outcome, a range of strategies are proposed and a few ideas are
illustrated in order to optimise the cost/quality rate, an essential
condition in the Dutch building market which is ruled by professional
building developers of large scale projects.

Netherlands.
The B.I.R.D. project was developed thanks to Lombardia Region and
ALER – Brescia, Italy, interested in developing buildings
marked out by the use of renewable energy and recyclable materials.
The plan regards the design of 52
apartments and a multifunctional centre for elderly people in Brescia
- Marco Bonomi will present this superinsulated building,
which is under construction.
