Call for Papers lead to an overwhelming number of returns
Many Thanks to all of you having submitted an abstract! The number
of returns has been extraordinary. Extraordinary not only in terms
of quantity with 149 submitted abstracts, since the sheer number
is not saying much about the quality.
Looking over the abstracts, the conference team at the Passive
House Institute soon discovered that it will be no easy task for
the scientific board to choose among these excellent abstracts,
but only 80 abstracts in 16 possible working groups can be presented
at the 10th Conference on Passive Houses. The returns have also
shown that the main focus may well have to shift in favour of realised
projects in the existing stock and new buildings.
The scientific board was glad to see that a number of recently
realised, high-quality construction- and refurbishment projects
exist. And nothing can prove the applicability better than spreading
realisation. This will be a great part of the Conference, too. We
especially appreciate the documentation of model projects in practice,
because beyond the process of implementation, architects and designers
take the trouble to digest their gained experiences in order to
pass them on.
Moreover, the 10th Conference on Passive Houses has a lot to offer
with respect to innovations in the field of building technology
and HVAC systems. Without wanting to anticipate the decisions of
the scientific board, we can truly say that the development is progressing
at an accelerated speed. This is made possible against the background
of clearly defined aims. This again is possible because gained experiences
in realised projects help to show what approaches are target orientated
and what kind of qualities are needed.
The international part of the Conference is also promising new
insights. There are abstracts from Japan, China, Irkutsk in Russia,
Belarus, many new and old member states of the European Union and
right across the pond from New York and South California. The movement
for significantly improved energy efficiency is gaining international
ground. Partly due to rising energy prices, but also a result of
succesful demonstration of todays potentialities in the field of
qualitatively high-standard building technology.

State of preparations for the 10th
Conference on Passive Houses
All submitted abstracts have, after the expiration of the deadline,
been passed onto the members of the scientific board. Each abstract
is being read from at least two experts. It is then decided upon
the acceptance of each submitted abstract in January 2006 when the
collective Conference Advisory Council is meeting. Decisions are
based on the previously given criteria ( see authors page). The decisions
of the collective Conference Advisory Counsil are being made to
the best of their knowledge and belief, without the possibility
of recourse to legal action. The Counsils’ decisions will be final.
