Programme of the
12th Conference on Passive Houses 2008
The upcoming Passive House Conference will be
the sofar most comprehensive and most international one. Two
of the four working groups held in parallel will deal with
the use of Passive House technology around the globe from
Korea over Moscow, Oslo and Dublin to Boston, Washington and
Dallas - customized energy-efficient solutions on the basis
of the Passive House concept helps to obtain top results:
Energy savings reaching a sustainable and affordable level,
and permanently best values of comfort during summer and winter.
This is proved by the increasing interest from politicians
and from economy to see sustainable solutions: The conference
takes place under the aegis of German Federal minister Wolfgang
Tiefensee. The parliamentary state secretary Karin Roth will
speak at the conference on April 12th, and the opening adress
will be given by the Bavarian State Minister Joachim Herrmann.
The director of "Intelligent Energy Europe" (IEEA),
Vincent Berrutto, will deduce why the efficient use of energy
has the highest priority in European energy policy. Jens Lautsen
from the International Energy Agency (Paris) will also stress
the importance of an extraordinary high energy efficiency.
The European Parliament has recommended in the beginning of
2008, that starting from 2011 the Passivhaus standard should
be made mandatory in all European countries for new buildings
(see this link).

Passive Houses everywhere
in the EU? The European Parliament called for making mandatory
Passive House standards as early as 2011 for all new buildings.
At the 12th Passive House conference in Nuremberg decisive
results will be presented: Realized projects from Moscow to
the "mezzogiorno", from winter cold continental climate to
the subtropical summer hot regions.
From Arctic sea to Mediterranean sea.
There will be 76 lectures, including 6 plenary
ones. Further 52 authors will create posters and present them
in short presentations.
A particular focus of the 12th International
conference on Passive Houses is the modernization of existing
buildings using passive components. This in average leads
to energy savings of about a factor 10. Burkhard Schulze Darup
will show in his opening speech, how this vision was brought
through dedicated work in demonstration projects to a general
adoption.
Again, it is the combination of theory and practice, which
strengthens the Passive House conference: Tools, which are
just as useful as reliable to enable successful projects.
More and more important the international part will be -
and it is precisely the experience from different climate
zones which also foster the development in Central Europe.
The conference team would like to thank the authors of the
contributions to the conference proceedings, as in last year
almost all contributions were sent to the editorial team in
time - the conference volumes, in German and in English, will
be available in advance.
