Greeting address from Wolfgang Tiefensee, Federal Minister and Patron of the
10th International Conference on Passive Houses

Wolfgang Tiefensee
Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs

„...
Energy efficient construction reduces energy consumption, CO2 emissions and energy costs. It is a challenge, both for new buildings as well as for already existing buildings. It is a major aim of our federal government. That is why, in this legislative period, we promote energetic refurbishment of buildings with a total of 5, 6 billion Euro, providing 1, 4 billion Euro each year. ...

The German Federal Government will continue to promote new buildings of Passive Houses and Energy Saving Houses. The KFW banking group will continue to provide reduced-interest loans for up to 50.000 Euro per dwelling for building Passive and Energy Saving Houses. Furthermore, we are going to improve the building stock with especially innovative measure packages. Whoever retrofits an old building to a standard even better than new buildings is granted benefits and loans at reduced interest rates.
...
It is our common task, as I understand it, to disseminate the idea of Passive Houses following the principle „Do good and talk about it”. We have to convince even more people that investments in energy efficiency of buildings are sensible and necessary. May the Passive Houses Conference contribute to this process. I wish all participants interesting and stimulating exchanges of ideas and every success.”

The greeting speech is communicated on 19th of May by Wolfgang Ornth from the Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs in comprehensive wording. The organisers would like to thank the Federal Government for their support.

Active support came from the municipality of Hannover - Hans Mönninghoff (First city councillor) is addressing the plenum with a greeting speech.. Stadtwerke Hannover AG have supported the conference (Walter Meinhold is going to welcome the participants) and the European Union is promoting PEP (Promotion of Passive Houses) and Passive. On projects. The international part of the conference is among the tasks of the PEP project. Gordon Sutherland is going to speak for the EU commission.
